Washington, D.C. — CxEnergy 2024, the conference and expo held annually by the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG), brought nearly 600 participants in the fields of commissioning, energy management, and testing, adjusting & balancing (TAB) to San Diego, Calif., at the end of April. A joint effort of ACG, the Energy Management Association (EMA), and the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC), CxEnergy offered 32 technical sessions from industry experts.

Speakers with a range of commissioning experience covered relevant topics such as technology and artificial intelligence, workforce and talent development, updates on industry standards, case studies, and more. Energy management professionals spoke about energy efficiency, savings, storage, and other leading industry topics. The conference program fostered engaging discussions between attendees and speakers, connecting commissioning and energy management professionals with building owners and facility managers.

I enjoyed the conference very much. There were many great technical sessions to attend that had lots of useful information… The trade exhibit had a wide variety of organizations that made some great impressions… I am fortunate for the opportunity to attend and meet so many talented and passionate people.

  • Stephen Seller, PE, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
    CxEnergy 2024 Attendee

At CxEnergy’s opening plenary session, ACG Executive Director Ray Bert provided an update on the organization’s recent activities, including the ongoing process of updating the ACG Building Systems Commissioning Guideline, which is free to access for building owners and facility managers. Request a free copy here. Keynote speaker Sarah E. Maston, PE, of Colliers Project Leaders, then spoke on decarbonization and commercial buildings, discussing the ongoing development of several significant decarbonization standards.

In addition to a cutting-edge educational program, CxEnergy 2024 offered an expo hall featuring more than 40 exhibitors showcasing the latest software, technology, devices, and other services for commissioning, energy management, and TAB. New this year was the CxEnergy Technology Theater, an exciting opportunity for exhibitors to present their latest products. Headphones allowed Theater attendees to watch short presentations from four exhibitors in the midst of the bustling expo hall.

My experience was nothing but positive. It was my first CxEnergy, and it was by FAR the best conference I have ever been to! Starting with the EMA Golf Tournament, to all the sessions and exhibitors, everything was great. It was awesome to meet up with some of our current clients from around the country, as well as meet some new faces that were interested in our services. 10/10 experience and I am already looking forward to next year!

  • Hunter Sergey, Facility Grid
    CxEnergy Gold Sponsor & Exhibitor

To close out the conference, a small group of attendees toured the J. Craig Venter Institute, an innovative research facility that generates almost all of its own energy and serves as a model for sustainability in research buildings.

CxEnergy Returns to Crowds Eager to Network and Present on Groundbreaking Commissioning and Energy Projects

July 15, 2022

The Annual CxEnergy Conference & Expo, the #1 conference dedicated to commissioning, energy management and building diagnostics, returned with a bang in Orlando, Florida after a three-year in-person hiatus due to the coronavirus. Attendance was higher than expected, and the energy was palatable with peers reuniting after years of being restricted to virtual engagements.

“I really missed getting out there and participating and it was very rewarding to not only catch up with professionals, friends, and colleagues but to be able to participate and contribute to the organization once more.”
James Anderton, CxA, Director of Commissioning, Salas O’Brien, CxEnergy 2022 Attendee

CxEnergy kicked off with an organizational update from ACG Executive Director Ray Bert, who announced the all new ACG Building Systems Commissioning Guideline, free to members of ACG and the Energy Management Association (EMA). Click here to learn how to get your copy.

Wade Conlan, PE, CxA, BCxP, LEED AP, ASHRAE Director-at-Large, spoke briefly, a testament to the presenting organizations’ recent MOU with ASHRAE. Chris Castro, a renowned public official, energy enthusiast, and Director of Sustainability & Resilience at the City of Orlando, followed with a plenary address on tackling climate change through facility optimization. He shared how the City of Orlando has been transformed into a trailblazer for smart city goals and a national leader for energy efficient new and existing buildings.

Related topics bled into the CxEnergy technical program, featuring 32 sessions on topics ranging from lighting controls to the commissioning of federal buildings. The expo hall offered 50 exhibitors who showcased commissioning software, controls, TAB instrumentation, and other services, many of whom have returned to CxEnergy for 6 straight years in a row – including participating in virtual renditions the past few years.

“Anyone in the commissioning industry in any form should give CxEnergy a try at least once. In my view, it has the best program of all the different conferences we’ve gone to, it has the best atmosphere, and is even the most well-organized.”
-Jacob Terry, CxAlloy, Gold Sponsor/Exhibitor

COVID-19 Update

Dear CxEnergy attendees, ACG, EMA & AABC members:

After taking into account the current COVID-19 situation, continued hotel restrictions due to the virus, current registration numbers and, most importantly, feedback from our members and other potential attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors on their willingness to attend in-person, the ACG Board of Directors has made the decision to hold CxEnergy 2021 as a fully virtual event.

The Board did not make this decision lightly, holding biweekly discussions since November on the status of the conference. In the end, they concluded that because of the continuing uncertainty, pivoting now to a virtual event was the best decision. This will allow the event to take place during the month of April, while bringing the largest number of educational sessions to the greatest number of people.

Registration, including free access for members of ACG, EMA and ACG, will open soon. To see the complete virtual program, click here. Highlights of this year’s format include:

  • Two live virtual presentations each week during the month of April (Tuesdays & Thursdays).
  • A short virtual business session for ACG and EMA association updates.
  • 8 additional prerecorded technical sessions available to members and registered attendees, for a total of 16 hours of educational offerings.
  • A separate, dedicated “Technology Day,” designed to allow you to attend short, rapid-fire sessions with CxEnergy exhibitors over a period of a few hours, to keep up with their latest offerings in support of your commissioning, energy management, and testing businesses, as well as the opportunity to win a number of sponsored prizes.

More information will be forthcoming soon. Please email [email protected] with any questions. We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you virtually again this year and then in person again, finally, in Orlando in 2022!

Sincerely,

ACG Headquarters Staff
